Romantic Aromatherapy! By Jeanie McDuffee, Certified Aromatherapist

Essential oils have been used for centuries to enhance health, fertility and love. Create your own sensuous, aromatic experience at home or even when staying at a hotel. Light some candles, get out your essential oils and discover how aromatherapy can really spice up your love life!

“Our sense of smell is over 10,000 times more sensitive than our sense of taste, and researchers continue to investigate how certain aromas excite the brain, causing activation of the hypothalamus gland, the pituitary gland and the body’s hormones. Aromas also stimulate the limbic system, which is the part of the brain that controls sensations of pleasure, emotions and memory. Research has revealed that essential oils influence the brain by causing its complex chemistry to subtly change. During controlled experiments it has been observed many times that essential oils will produce specific and repeatable emotional responses in an individual.” Quoted from quinessence.com.

Rose, jasmine and sandalwood are the oils most chosen for use as an aphrodisiac, however they can be quite costly. If you want to try them you may want to find an “absolute” which has been diluted with another oil to keep cost down. Ylang ylang, neroli, rosewood and patchouli are more reasonably priced and just as effective. Ylang ylang is known for its ability to help with frigidity and impotence as well.

There are many ways to put these oils in effect. You can simply apply to your pulse points or place in a diffuser. You can get creative and place some in your bath and have a bath for 2. If you have a hot tub you can put essential oils in there. Give each other a massage by adding oils to an unscented lotion. You could also make a hydrosol to spray the air or your linens.
